I’m finally getting caught up on organizing some personal images of my family and wanted to share some from our last couple vacations.
This vacation to the beach was our first time as a family of three to get away on our own and it was incredible. Jenica and I are typically not huge beach people but now I can see why families love it so much – you can actually sit and relax while your kids play in the sand. I’ve never been a big fan of sitting around and doing nothing. If I’m on vacation then I want to be playing volleyball, going to a movie, or out throwing a frisbee or football. However, since becoming a father I’ve liked the idea of taking time to do nothing more and more – ha. It was an absolute blast crashing around in the waves with Asher, playing cars in the sand, swimming around in the pool, and going out to get ice cream. These were all shot with my Bronica ETRS with Portra 400 film as well as a cheap underwater Canon film camera.
We also took a trip a few months ago up to Pigeon Forge with my wife’s family. I didn’t take as many with the film camera while we were there but I used up about a roll when driving through the Smoky Mountains because they looked incredible with the low lying clouds. I’ve loved shooting more and more film, mostly just to document family life. I find that I take forever to process through family stuff when I shoot digitally and so it’s nice to just send off my film to the lab once I’m done shooting. I also love that I have to wait awhile to go back and remember everything.
